Event Description: Health workforce are considered one of the main building blocks of health systems and thus a strong contributor to the fight against public health challenges. As medical students are part of the health workforce, this session will shed the light on their role in tackling the health challenges, the current situation of health workforce worldwide and the needed structural and systemic changes that would allow competent health workforce to contribute to the strengthening and resilience of health systems, while preserving their health and wellbeing.

GPHW2023: Equity in Action

Event Description: As part of the actions of the Health Equity Network of the Americas (HENA) to promote and position the construction of more equitable, sustainable, and resilient health systems and societies, a digital media campaign will be carried out to disseminate the positioning, scope, and impact on Health Equity through multidisciplinary and multilevel work in the regional and global context that allows the HENA.

To this end, reference will be made to the different thematic axes addressed by the network according to priorities identified from a public health perspective: multisectoral articulation, social determinants and determination, migration, human rights, and the situation of pregnant women and homeless people.

The campaign will include a short positioning video on Equity with the participation of the members of the Board of Directors of the Network, publication of images throughout the week in the social networks of HENA, dissemination of an opinion article (in social networks and media of the University of Costa Rica) and the launching of the first bulletin of the positioning of HENA. All of these will also be shared with the members of the Board of Directors for their respective dissemination in the organizations they are part of.

GPHW2023: Towards Training a New Generation of Infodemic Managers

Event Description: As new acute public health crises emerge daily, many countries request infodemic managers to be deployed. However, health-oriented agencies offering these services are in serious lack of people with experience and the right competencies. Early during the COVID-19 pandemic, people from disinformation research, journalism, and fact-checking stepped into this space to fill the analytical needs gap. What is now needed are fully trained infodemic managers who mastered the complex skillset required to mitigate the damaging impact of the infodemic on public health. This cannot be achieved without the cooperation of higher education institutions, mainly the Schools of Public Health and/or Faculties of Medicine. This online round table will bring international speakers of different backgrounds and affiliations to discuss the possible integration of infodemic management competencies into medical curricula and other forms of continuous medical education.
