Event Description: La Sociedad Cubana de Salud Pública (SOCUSAP) y la Alianza de Asociaciones de Salud Pública de las Américas (AASPA), en correspondencia con la iniciativa de la Federación Mundial de Asociaciones de Salud Pública (WFPHA por sus siglas en ingles) para la celebración de “La Semana Mundial de la Salud Pública”, tienen el gusto de invitarle a que nos acompañe en el evento que se celebrará desde el lunes 4 hasta el viernes 8 de abril, con el tema “La salud pública importa: construyendo el nuevo futuro”. Este evento tiene como objetivo reunir a instituciones, comunidades y actores de la salud pública para reconocer sus contribuciones.

Event Description: Although disease outbreaks of pandemic proportions are rare, but when they occur, they have telling impacts on the life and livelihoods of large swathes of the global population. This truth has been “driven home” even more strongly by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has been ravaging the globe for more than past two years. COVID-19 has spared no nation and this contagion has plunged many millions worldwide into terrible sufferings, and sizeable numbers of those affected succumbed to this virus. Indirectly, the pandemic has stalled normal human economic activities again and again and consequently impoverished innumerable households and made them face unprecedented hardships. This is because many socio-economically crippling public health measures had to be put into practice, often reluctantly by governments, in almost every region of the world, to get a grip on this raging pandemic, so that regional and local health systems do not get “run over”. So, it would be really worthwhile if we can foresee the early signs of such pandemics in future and pre-emptively act against them to forestall their spread and resurgence in waves. This talk would cover how such a future pandemic can be predicted and thereafter prevented.
