Meet Our New Governing Council Member, Dr Tarun Weeramanthri

On May 19, 2022, during the General Assembly of the World Federation of Public Health Associations, member organizations have elected Dr Tarun Weeramanthri as new member of our Governing Council (GC). He represents the West Pacific region on the GC.

Tarun is President of the Public Health Association of Australia and an adjunct professor at the University of Western Australia. He is a trained specialist in internal medicine and public health, and has a PhD in social medicine. He has extensive experience in disaster and emergency preparedness and response.

WFPHA at WHA75: Constituency Statement to Support Adoption of a Pandemic Treaty Based on Human Rights, Equity, and Solidarity

The 75th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) takes place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 22 – 28 May 2022.

WFPHA attends WHA75 with a strong constituency statement supporting the adoption of a Pandemic Treaty founded upon the values of human rights, equity, and solidarity.

On May 19, 2022, during the General Assembly of the World Federation of Public Health Associations, member organizations have welcomed 3 new members; the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET), the European Network of Medical Residents in Public Health (EuroNet MRPH), and World Patients Alliance.

Welcoming New President

On May 19, 2022, the WFPHA formally welcomes its new President Prof. Luis Eugenio de Souza. He will hold the role of President for the next two years.

Luis is a professor at the Federal University of Bahia and a leader in health equity and sustainable development!
