Theme: Empowering Our Communities – Protecting Minorities & the Most Vulnerable
Date and Time: 05 April 2023 | 19:00 – 20:00 (CEST)
Event Description: The Trauma and Global Mental Health Lab at the New School for Social Research in New York City, in partnership with HIAS Colombia, Universidad del Norte, and Columbia University, with the support of Laser Pulse and USAID, is pleased to announce the international launch of “Pequeños Cambios, Grandes Transformaciones”, a documentary film directed by Marianne Amelinckx, featuring the lived experiences of Venezuelan migrant women and Colombian women from the host community in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Group Problem Management Plus (Group PM+) is a five session intervention for individuals experiencing distress that can be delivered by persons without a mental health background. With the aim of improving mental health access for both Venezuelan migrant and Colombian women at risk of gender-based violence in Barranquilla, they were trained to become facilitators and deliver PM+ to other members of the community holding the same identities.
‘Pequeños Cambios, Grandes Transformaciones’ is a heart-felt, short documentary film that shares and makes the stories of community and personal transformation, from this research study, accessible to wider audiences, and that often do not come across in research papers.
The viewing of the film will be immediately followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session featuring the directors, as well as members from HIAS, Laser Pulse and the World Health Organization.
