Theme: Strengthening Public Health Associations and Communities

Date and Time: 07 April 2022 | 13:30 – 14:30 (CEST)

Event Description: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of digital health technologies, with recent events accelerating progress towards the expansion of the domain of digital public health (DPH). Yet despite these advancements, there remains significant untapped potential in harnessing, leveraging, and repurposing digital technologies for public health. There is a particularly growing need for comprehensive action to prepare citizens for DPH, to regulate and effectively evaluate DPH, and adopt DPH strategies as part of health policy and services to optimise health systems improvement.

The Lancet & Financial Times Commission on Governing Health Futures 2030: Growing up in a digital world explores the convergence of digital health, artificial intelligence (AI), and other frontier technologies with UHC to support attainment of the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG): Ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all at all ages.

The Commission’s report calls for a radical rethink on digital health as well as for action in several areas to promote sustainable health futures. Its novel recommendations for a value-based framework for governing health futures will help to ensure that digital technologies optimise health outcomes and positively transform UHC.

In this session, Commissioners – alongside other experts – will share key findings and insights of the Commission’s report for the public health community and discuss how public health associations and communities play a role in the sustainable governance of health futures.
