GPHW2022:

The Impact of Lead Pollution on NCDs

News

Mar 16, 2022

Theme: Reversing Climate Disaster

Date and Time: 05 April 2022 | 15:00 – 16:00 (CEST)

Event Description: It has been demonstrated that toxic effects can emerge in multiple organ systems at levels that were previously considered safe as a result of lead poisoning.

Children suffering from lead contamination had impaired cognitive functions and disrupted behavior at levels too low to produce symptoms. This contamination has also been noted as a cause of hypertension, risk factors for other diseases of the cardiovascular system, chronic liver disease, also in adults, and severe effects on neurological development and causes premature deaths mainly in low-middle income countries.

This event presents the connections between science and policies to raise awareness of the significant impact of lead exposure on human health, especially regarding non-communicable diseases.
